  1. Is it true that RAWBInfo doesn't work correctly with OS 3.5 as was mentioned in the original Amiga Inc. OS 3.5 FAQ?
  2. The picture viewer Visage doesn't work anymore when started from the icon with OS 3.5. It shows "Buffer overflow, too many arguments"?
  3. After installation of OS 3.5, the news reader "New York II" suddenly fails, can it be fixed?
  4. Why is it that drag-and-dropping icons onto the "Information" window requester in OS 3.5 will not work once you've run Directory Opus (or still have it running) even with the latest v5.82 patch?
  5. ImageFX and Aladdin hang during the loading process. What causes this, and is there a workaround?
  6. How can I get my SurfSquirrel SCSI setup and working with OS 3.5?

Q: Is it true that RAWBInfo doesn't work correctly with OS 3.5 as was mentioned in the original Amiga Inc. OS 3.5 FAQ?
A: No. The latest RAWBInfo works fine with OS 3.5 and supports all of its features, plus a lot more that you may recall from the old "SwazInfo" utility.
2.
Q: The picture viewer Visage doesn't work anymore when started from the icon with OS 3.5. It shows "Buffer overflow, too many arguments"?
A: The cause of this problem is unknown, but just load the icon into OS 3.5's new IconEdit and save it back; that fixes the problem.
3.
Q: After installation of OS 3.5, the news reader "New York II" suddenly fails. Can it be fixed?
A: To run stably, New York/New York-II rely on the old getfont.gadget class from the obsolete ClassAct archive. Both versions of New York are poorly programmed, and should be able to use the updated getfont.gadget file from OS 3.5, but this is not the case. New York/New York-II also generate enforcer hits on startup, and as they are no longer supported by Finale Development, it is recommended that you switch to a different newsreader. It is NOT recommended that you use the old getfont.gadget file, as it is buggy and could cause problems with OS 3.5. [Gregory Donner]

Q: Why is it that drag-and-dropping icons onto the "Information" window requester in OS 3.5 will not work once you've run Directory Opus (or still have it running) even with the latest v5.82 patch installed?
A: This is caused by Directory Opus patching workbench.library. GPSoftware is aware of the bug but have no plans to fix it. [Gregory Donner]
5.
Q: ImageFX and Aladdin hang during the loading process. What causes this, and is there a workaround?
A: This happens if the "AmigaOS ROM Update" isn't installed correctly. Without it, chooser.gadget v44.5 will cause ImageFX to hang when loading (it stops at the "initializing interface" part). Using the old chooser.gadget (v41.103) fixes things with ImageFX, but then ReAction programs complain that they need the new version. A correct install of the "AmigaOS ROM Update" file in DEVS: eliminates this problem. [Jody Tierney]

Q: How can I get my SurfSquirrel SCSI setup and working with OS 3.5?
A:

Follow these steps when installing OS 3.5 over an existing OS 3.0/3.1 system:

  • Place C:SquirrelSCSI before C:Setpatch QUIET in S:Startup-Sequence.

Follow these steps when installing OS 3.5 on a clean system:

  • After the emergency floppy has been created, type the following three lines in a Shell window:
    • COPY CLONE C:SquirrelSCSI DF0:C
    • COPY CLONE LIBS:Squirrelscsi.library DF0:Libs
    • COPY CLONE DEVS:squirrelscsi.device DF0:Devs
  • Place C:SquirrelSCSI before C:Setpatch in DF0:S/Startup-Sequence.
  • Ensure that DF0:Devs/DOSDrivers/CD0 is using the squirrelscsi.device directly, and not the CD32 emulated cd.device. If the latter is true, change it to squirrelscsi.device and change the UNIT number to the SCSI-ID.

After installing OS 3.5, make the same changes to the files mentioned above. Replace DF0: with the partition name where you installed OS 3.5 on. [Staf Verhaegen]
